"As a result my daily blood sugar level is now under control and my energy level has increased dramatically. I have a brighter and more positive outlook on things."
What made you decide to lose weight? Was there a moment or experience that "lit the fire" for you?
Feeling very lethargic in addition to suffering ill effects of type 2 diabetes.
Have you tried any other weight loss plans (low fat, low calorie, or other) in the past? How did they work out?
Have tried low calorie numerous times but found to be too tedious and time consuming calculating calories. Stopped low calorie diet for these reasons.
Tell us about your weight loss experience. How did you change your diet and lifestyle? How did this affect your life (health, well-being, attitude, energy)?
Changed eating habits by lowering carbohydrate intake to 40 per day.
Started using treadmill on a daily basis.
As a result my daily blood sugar level is now under control and my energy level has increased dramatically. I have a brighter and more positive outlook on things (except for the US Presidential election)
How did Carb Manager help you stay on track? Which features did you find the most useful?
Without Carb Manager I could not have monitored my carb intake with any precision. It allows me to know exactly how many carbs I can consume throughout the day which is an integral part of type 2 diabetes control.
The most useful feature I found in Carb Manager was the frequently consumed food feature. I do not have to reenter the same food time and time again.
What was the most difficult part of losing weight? What techniques did you use to overcome these challenges? What kept you motivated?
The most difficult part of losing weight was having the temptation of high carb foods close by. My wife is not on this diet and as a result there are high carb foods laying around all over the house.
Another area of difficulty was determining a variety of foods to eat which are low carb. Carb Manager helped me out here.
When I have a desire for carbs or am starving I eat (believe it or not) hot peppers to control the urges. My greatest motivators were my blood sugar readings and the mirror.
What do you see as the greatest benefits of going low carb?
1. Lower blood sugar readings
2. Weight loss
3. Feeling of confidence and well being.
What's the best thing about being at your new weight?
Energy to participate in activities that in the past seemed to require too much of an effort.
Lowering of blood sugar count and it's related benefits
What are your health & fitness goals going forward?
Get down to at least 199 lbs and maintain a healthy weight and control blood sugar.
We'd love it if you could provide a few tips for others just beginning their low carb lifestyle.
Try the hot pepper trick mentioned above. Seems to work for me.
